Background
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the most frequently performed procedure for surgical weight loss and it is associated with weight loss and reduction of the parameters included in the metabolic syndrome at long term. Moreover, the ideal length of the biliopancreatic limb is debated; modifications of the surgical technic could obtain more weight loss and an improvement of the metabolic outcomes.
Objective
The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of the length of the biliopancreatic limb in excess weight loss%, by comparing results obtained from two surgical procedures. We will also evaluate the parameters included in the metabolic syndrome, the medical complications after the surgery and the QOL.
Methods
A randomized, single-blinded, consecutive, controlled interventional clinical trial will be carried on at Hospital Universitari Josep Trueta, Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron and Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol-Can Ruti.
270 patients that meet the inclusion criteria for this bariatric procedure will be placed randomly in two groups: the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass with a biliopancreatic limb of 100cm group or in the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass with a biliopancreatic limb of 200cm group. For future statistical analysis we will use U-Mann Whitney test, Student-T test or Chi-Square test
