Tendencia de la oferta de festivales en Cataluña = Tendencies of the festivals offer in Catalonia 2017

This paper displays the current state of the offer for festivals hold in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, in Spain. The study comprises the four provinces of the region: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. The register gathers information about the artistic genre, the scheduled calendar and the location for each event. It is relevant as a general map of the regional market of cultural events, and serves to identify the active festivals. The information that is presented, was obtained by consulting public records and entities such as: Generalitat de Catalunya departments, Tourism Boards‘ departments, Deputations, County Councils, City Halls, and metropolitan departments for capital cities. The data counts for the last governmental exercise 2017 and is updated periodically. The results indicate that the offer is concentrated in the capital cities of each province, with a significant increase in Barcelona. It is shown that the seasonality peaks appear from June to August, and that Music is the most popular artistic genre. In this context, we selected four cases among the Performing Arts festivals (circus, dance and theatre) for further research. Those are: Festival Grec de Barcelona, Temporada Alta - Festival de Tardor a Catalunya, Fira Tàrrega - Teatre al Carrer, and Festival Internacional de Teatre de Tarragona - Noves Dramatúrgies ​
