Els retaules del taller dels Sunyer a l'església de Sant Martí de Joc

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to bring new testimonies to the study of the Catalan sculpture of the first half of the eighteenth-century, concretely, the ones of the Conflent region. In general, the altarpieces production in Catalunya del Nord has been rejected, it can be for the Catalan historiography or for the French one, without valuing the fact that all the tasks and documentaries are kept there (xvii-xviii centurys). Concretely, among Catalan artists linked to the area, Josep and Pau Sunyer i Raurell, from Manresa, work actively in these places. Joc church has kept a respectable group of altarpieces, that due to the historiographic revision and a new documentation we can say that they belong to these sculptors. This paper tries to be the beginning of a more ambitious research about the tasks of Josep Sunyer i Raurell (circa 1673-1751) in both sides of Pyrenees, that shows the high level of his active workshop in Catalonia, contemporary to the ones of Costa, Moretó, Pujol, among others

El present treball pretén aportar nous testimonis a l'estudi de l'escultura catalana de la primera meitat del segle xviii, provinents, en aquest cas, de la comarca del Conflent. En general, la producció retaulística de la Catalunya del Nord ha estat menystinguda, tant per part de la historiografia catalana com també de la francesa, sense valorar el fet que allí es conserva gairebé tota l'obra i una abundant documentació dels segles xvii i xviii. Precisament, entre els diversos artífexs catalans vinculats a la zona, els manresans Josep i Pau Sunyer i Raurell, van treballar activament en aquestes contrades. A l'església parroquial de Joc s'ha conservat un conjunt prou destacable de retaules, que, gràcies a la revisió historiogràfica i a nova documentació, hem pogut atribuir a aquests dos escultors. L'estudi vol ser un preàmbul d'una recerca més ambiciosa centrada en la revisió del catàleg d'obra de Josep Sunyer i Raurell (circa 1673-1751) a banda i banda dels Pirineus, que posi de manifest el bon nivell assolit pel seu taller actiu a Catalunya, contemporani al dels Costa, Moretó i Pujol, entre molts altres
