After leaving Sicily in 1603, Camillo Camiliani traveled to Spain to work as an architect and projector for Don Pedro de Toledo Osorio, Fifth Marquis of Villafranca. His main project was the transformation of the fortress of Villafranca del Bierzo in the renovated core of a large palace surrounded by beautiful gardens decorated with fountains and sculptures. Despite its brevity, the relationship between the aristocratic patron and the architect has given us a couple of interesting manuscripts of Camiliani and a contemporary copy of his drawing for this ambitious project ​
