dc.description.abstract
The present Final Degree Project consists in an investigation of the graffiti phenomenon in Malgrat de Mar. From the beginning, the graffiti has always been seen as an act of vandalism and uncivil by a great portion of the society, for that reason, in the present project theoretical framework, an extended doctrinal debate has been included. A great part of the investigation consists in an observation and analysis of different streets of the location with the objective of determining if there is actually a graffiti problem in Malgrat. The use of qualitative techniques like the open interview, has allowed me to recognize the institutional perception about this phenomenon. After performing the observation and doing the interviews, the existence of a problem in the streets of Malgrat has been proven. Consequently, I’m contributing with a set of criminological recommendations that can help to the inclusion of the graffiti in society and also to reduce the number of graffiti and defacement that can be found in the urban environment. A good example of these recommendations consists in improving the education, releasing public spaces for the creation of graffiti and improving the communication between the youth and the city council
