Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) is a therapeutic process used in many blood disorders. This procedure consist of replacing altered receptors cells for the donor’s stem cells, which could be obtained by bone marrow, peripheral blood or umbilical cord blood. Some of the main hematologic cancers are diagnosed in nearly 15,000 people in Spain, each year. Currently the number of donors registered in the Spanish Register of Bone Marrow Donors (REDMO) is growing, but the amount of requests is also increasing. Therefore, it shows that the number of donors is still insufficient, and many people who need a transplantation do not have a compatible donor. Health science students can play an important role in promoting the hematopoietic stem cell donation, because as future health professionals will become care leaders for the society and represent an ideal demographic group for stem cells donating. The main objective of the study is to identify the knowledge, learning and attitudes of nursing students from Girona University, about hematopoietic stem cell donations. This is a descriptive, transversal, quantitative, and qualitative study that will be carried out at nursing Faculty from Girona University, between March and June 2017. The selected population will be the students of first, second, third and fourth year. The studied variables are demographic, knowledge, learning and attitudes that these future nurses have. To evaluate the variables we will use a questionnaire, which has been prepared with open and closed questions. Finally, focus groups will be done to complement the results with participants’ opinions and perceptions towards hematopoietic stem cell donations
