La Pedra del Gall (Empúries, l'Escala)

Abstract

In this short article, we analyse an almost forgotten tomb fromthe Empúries archaeological site. In fact, a funeral monument which could have functioned as grave and altar at the same time. Known for years, and originating a local legend that gave the humble monument its name, the Pedra del Gall (literally, Rooster’s Rock) was not given any attention by those researchers who, half a century ago, studied the funerary grounds of Empúries. For its typology and structure, it can only be dated imprecisely, close to the end of the first century aC

S'analitza, en aquest breu article, una tomba quasi oblidada del conjunt emporità. En realitat, un monument funerari que podia fer ensems les funcions de sepultura i d'altar. Coneguda de fa anys, entorn la qual va néixer una llegenda local que va donar nom al modest monument, la Pedra del Gall no va gaudir de les atencions d'aquells investigadors que,mig segle enrere, van estudiar els conjunts cementirials emporitans. Tipològicament i estructuralment, s’ha de datar en un moment imprecís, proper a les acaballes del segle I aC.
