The analysis of the 672 response questionnaires indicates a gender disparity, particularly for women, in terms of job instability, as they are more likely to hold temporary and part-time positions. Furthermore, a discrepancy has been observed in their capacity to influence work organization, as they frequently occupy lower-level positions and prioritize family well-being. Motherhood and the care of dependent beings are significant impediments to women’s professional development, as they are often compelled to postpone projects or modify their working conditions. However, this is not the only factor to be considered. A significant number of participants have articulated sentiments of underestimation, largely attributable to their gender. The prevailing sentiment among both genders is that male journalists are the beneficiaries of a greater range of opportunities, enhanced prospects for professional advancement, and more favorable working conditions. The sexism that still exists in the sector is also seen as a key constraint, as many women feel undervalued in their workplaces simply for being women, regardless of whether they have children or not. This study makes a significant contribution to a more comprehensive understanding of the gender gap in journalism on a global scale. For a number of years now we have begun to see spaces on television schedules that seek and propose invitations to reconciliation and which break both with a certain hegemonic discourse about the dangers of immigration and with more regular formats such as the news. They usually take the shape of reports and cultural programmes, encouraged by a more social and human orientation about the problems of immigration and interculturism. Paradoxically, these programmes, innovative not just in terms of format but also in their way of articulating content, are not easy to fit into general station programming schedules, where they are conspicuous by their absence. This article presents the results of a brief exploration of the recent programme offers that could be considered ‘exemplary’ of the treatment of ‘the other’ in the television discourse Article publicat a "Quaderns del CAC", núm.23-24, (September 2005 - April 2006), independentment de la versió de llengüa de l'article. This dissertation offers a study and a critical-genetic edition of Cartes d’Itàlia (1955), with the aim of providing a reliable text that is faithful to both the language and the style of the writer. Firstly, the study examines the author’s initial encounters with Italian culture, a decisive connection that motivated him to dedicate a book to Italy. It then analyses the process of composition of the volume, as well as the genetic development undergone be the texts it comprises. In this respect, the study of textual variants is complemented by a comparative edition of the published witnesses of each text, which facilitates comparative scholarship and demonstrates that the writer did not simply recover previously published works, but subjected them, before incorporating them into the volume, to a meticulous process of transformation. Finally, the complete text of Cartes d’Itàlia is presented in a critical and annotated edition, established, for the first time, through the collation of the entire preserved manuscript, typescript and printed tradition. Amb tot, la tesi obre una nova via per a l’estudi de Pla i, en particular, del seu mètode creatiu Fri, 17 Apr 2026 00:00:00 GMT http://hdl.handle.net/10256/28975 2026-04-17T00:00:00Z Influence of Previous Literacy Experiences in the First Language (Catalan and/or Spanish) on Learning to Read in a Foreign Language (Standard Arabic) http://hdl.handle.net/10256/28970 Influence of Previous Literacy Experiences in the First Language (Catalan and/or Spanish) on Learning to Read in a Foreign Language (Standard Arabic) Ferrerós, Carla; Stern Taulats, Anna Learning to read in a second language is conditioned by the linguistic characteristics of the L1 and L2 and their writing systems, and by the learning context and the circumstances of previous literacy experiences. The aim of the present study is to determine which factors most influence the literacy process in a foreign language that is typologically different and has a different writing system from that of the first language in adults (L1 = Catalan and/or Spanish; L2 = Standard Arabic). The results were obtained from reading tests and questionnaires administered to a group of A1 level learners of Arabic (n = 18) with L1 Catalan and/or Spanish. The results show that the morphological characteristics of Arabic, as well as its type of writing system and its non-transparent orthography, impact learners’ reading proficiency. Attitudes and prior experiences have an indirect influence on the L2 literacy process, since they are more closely related to learners’ self-perception of their reading proficiency, which in turn is linked to a poorer attitude towards social reading and towards second language study in general Tue, 16 Sep 2025 00:00:00 GMT http://hdl.handle.net/10256/28970 2025-09-16T00:00:00Z
