Nolla, Josep Maria
The first rigorous attempts to locate the remains of the old Rhode in the Ciutadella were carried out by the Board of Museums of Barcelona. Through the excavation diaries of the Ampuritan ruins, written by Emili Gandia, we can follow that process that did not prosper; Els primers intents rigorosos per localitzar els vestigis de l’antiga Rhode a la Ciutadella van ser decisió de la Junta de Museus de Barcelona.

The historic building of Barcelona is chronologically shown, as a proposal certainly originating from the Roman foundation of the city. This is evidenced by the construction techniques, the building materials, the finishes, or even the historical architectural projects themselves. The testimony of the houses preserved in the Born site, but also in some areas of the rest of the historic centre of the city, would explain this singularity: this local factor; La edilícia històrica de Barcelona es mostra en el seu recorregut, com una proposta certament original des de la mateixa fundació romana de la ciutat.

Zoni, Federico
Housing is one of the best material indicators to investigate the economic, social and political context of the medieval landscape. The objective of this contribution is to propose a reading of the relationship between the city and the countryside throughout the Late Medieval centuries precisely from this type of material indicator. It is possible to recognise the more or less specialised master’s work by looking at the architectural models, the types of construction, and the materials used. Also, by analysing the distribution of artefacts attributable to the same architectural models between the urban and rural landscapes, it is possible to understand how the centrality of urban centres changed between the High and Late Middle Ages. In particular, a predominant role of the city seems to emerge as a producer and exporter of new models to the territory since the municipal era, in line with many other aspects of material culture, that is, at the time when cities began to politically and militarily define their territorial reference districts; Le abitazioni sono uno dei migliori indicatori materiali per indagare il contesto economico, sociale e politico del paesaggio medievale.

Sagrera i Aradilla, Jordi
The city of Girona preserves many examples of medieval buildings. Despite the formal differences, there are common features in the conception of the spaces and the construction techniques that allow them to be identified without too many problems. The narrow facades, the deep plots, the existence of the inner courtyard as a core element, the location of a rear exit or orchard, and the living room as a preferred residential area. In height, they contain three f loors, the main one on the first f loor, with a courtyard crowning the house under the roof; La ciutat de Girona conserva molts exemples d’edificis medievals.
