From archaeological markers to the historical reconstruction of the worksite. Some examples from medieval Rome Giannini, Nicoletta The present paper considers the topic of building cities. This is certainly a well-studied topic, but also a complex one because different factors are involved with regard to the economic, social and political context, often characterized by the appearance of new main characters. This complexity can be analyzed in many manners, including the one of the archaeology of production and building activities. Starting from the considerable amount of data in the database created between 2013 and 2014 for the project “archeologia della produzione a Roma” (Archaeology of production activities in Rome), the topic will be discussed from a point of view considered particularly interesting: the study of archaeological markers in building materials, and therefore, the study of all those production processes involved in construction activities.The research will demonstrate how the analysis of physical markers of building activities can record important tracks on different aspects of building, aspects of extreme interest for understanding the city; Il presente contributo vuole affrontare il tema della costruzione della città. Si tratta di un tema certamente classico, ma allo stesso tempo complesso, poiché in esso entrano in gioco diversi fattori che interessano l’economia, la società, la politica, caratterizzandosi spesso per l’irrompere sulla scena di nuovi protagonisti. Beach sandy barriers have triggered areas which could be suitable for anchorage and port activities. Present paper tried to describe Barcelona littoral changes with the aim to locate and characterize anchorage areas before the construction of breakwater structures during 15th and 16th centuries. With this aim, sedimentological and chronological data have been recovered in the Besòs delta plain, allowing the study of more than 200 geological cores. The presence of silty clay organic rich beds indicates the existence of depressed sectors which were protected by sandy bars. These areas could reach depth of waters of 7 m and, for instance, be suitable areas for anchorage between the Late Antiquity and the Late Middle periods; La ciutat de Barcelona està estretament vinculada al mar i per tant, la seva història està associada a la morfologia i als canvis del seu front marítim, que configuraren diferents espais portuaris. El present treball aborda l’evolució del front litoral barceloní amb l’objectiu de caracteritzar i localitzar les àrees per a fondejar els vaixells amb anterioritat a la construcció de les estructures portuàries dels segles XV-XVI. En el lòbul deltaic dret del Besòs, s’ha recollit informació sedimentològica i cronològica de més de 200 sondatges geològics, que han permès detectar l’existència de dos sectors deprimits amb presència de llims i argiles orgànics. The study of their first phases must consider the nautical techniques used for their access. In some cases special architectures are built in relation to the view from the sea: lighthouses, towers or churches with special position or dedications. In other cases the same shape of the streets of the new towns follows the entry line into the port. The houses of the merchants, the warehouses, the commercial strategies, allow to decode some principles that regulate the construction of ports in the Tyrrhenian naval space, between Tuscany, Sardinia and Mediterranean Sea; I porti medievali lungo le coste del mare Tirreno vengono protetti da palizzate di legno, da moli e da approdi naturali il cui accesso deve essere studiato in relazione con le tecniche nautiche adoperate durante le loro prime fasi. In alcuni casi architetture speciali vengono costruite in relazione con la veduta dal mare: fari, torri o chiese con posizioni o dediche particolari. In altri casi la stessa forma delle strade delle nuove fondazioni urbane indica la linea di entrata nel porto. Even though Barcelona was the main port of the Catalan coast, the other two had same advantages thanks to their nautical characteristics and their harbour infrastructures; La recerca planteja una comparació entre els ports de Barcelona, Sant Feliu de Guíxols i Roses, tenint en compte les seves característiques geomorfològiques i geoestratègiques, el seu paper com a ports comtals, la connexió amb les principals vies comercials terrestres i marítimes i la seva interrelació amb els diferents ports de la Costa de Llevant catalana.
